The objective of the Super Lawyers selection process is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource to assist attorneys and consumers in the search for legal counsel.
In December 2006, Key Professional Media, Inc., the publisher of Super Lawyers, retained Global Strategy Group (GSG), one of the nation's leading market research and consulting firms, to provide an independent assessment of the Super Lawyers selection process. The GSG report concluded that the process is scientific and objective.
Law & Politics will begin accepting nominations for 2009 Southern California Super Lawyers in May.

Southern California Super Lawyers is published annually in February in three publications:
- Super Lawyers appears in a special advertising section in Los Angeles magazine, which reaches more than 450,000 monthly readers.
- Southern California Super Lawyers magazine, featuring articles about Southern California lawyers, is delivered to more than 72,000 Southern California attorneys, the lead corporate counsel of the Russell 3000 companies and the ABA-approved law school libraries.
- Super Lawyers also appears in a special advertising supplement to be seen by more than 193,000 readers of The New York Times (Los Angeles and Orange County distributions).
Southern California Rising Stars is published in July in a special advertising section in Los Angeles magazine. Southern California Super Lawyers — Rising Stars Edition, featuring articles about up-and-coming Southern California attorneys, is delivered to more than 68,000 Southern California lawyers.
"My Platinum profile ad has definitely paid off! My law firm is a boutique five-attorney law firm in San Francisco that had never advertised prior to this, except in Martindale-Hubbel. We have been a traditional insurance defense firm, and wanted to subtly let people know that we also do select plaintiff's cases. In the last quarter of 2006, we were retained in three significant plaintiff's cases, two of which are high-profile media cases. I also placed an ad in the Super Lawyers section of San Francisco magazine, to reach non- lawyers. Now, people at the gym, the coffee shop, the drycleaners tell me they had no idea what I do, and they will come to me when they need a lawyer.
