Those recoveries include a $4.85 billion settlement with Merck for injury to clients who used the drug Vioxx, a $1.9 billion settlement with Sempra Energy and a $1.7 billion settlement with El Paso Gas on behalf of California consumers who were defrauded by the manipulation of natural gas prices. The firm also reached a settlement of $333 million with Pacific Gas & Electric for toxic tort personal injury suffered by residents of Hinkley, California, the case depicted in the film Erin Brockovich.

Additional recoveries or settlements include cases involving injury from drugs, property damage from an earthquake, theft of trade secrets, contamination of water wells and child abuse in a Masonic Home.
