Profile

Hadsell Stormer Keeny Richardson & Renick LLP is a unique civil rights law firm. One of the oldest and largest civil rights firms in the nation, it represents clients in practice areas including employment discrimination, whistleblower protection, consumer litigation, international human rights, police misconduct and a wide variety of civil rights matters.

The firm’s wide-ranging practice enables its attorneys to take on complex and novel litigation, often capturing headlines. Recently, one such case is Bowoto v. Chevron Corp., in which the firm sued Chevron for human rights abuses against Nigerian protesters. The case went to trial in October 2008.

“The attorneys in the firm are passionately committed to providing civil rights to all,” says Anne Richardson, a partner with the firm. “We often represent very low-wage workers, but we also represent top management in their disputes with their employers.”

The firm has won significant victories for its clients. In one case, Hadsell Stormer achieved a $22.4 million settlement with California supermarket chains Albertsons, Ralphs and Safeway/Vons for failing to pay their janitors the state minimum wage or the required premium for overtime.

Hadsell Stormer began in 1991 and merged with the law offices of Randy Renick in 2008. Founding partners Dan Stormer and Barbara Hadsell are highly respected veterans of civil rights practice in Los Angeles. The firm has 12 attorneys, comprised of five partners and seven associates.
