Frieda Gordon has presented with some of her colleagues during several three and two-day seminars for certified family law specialists from all over the State of California. Mos recently she presented with other top-ranking attorneys and judges on the topic of Just the Facts” An Advanced Course in Family Law Evidence: Discover, Obtain, Admit and Exclude It.  In April 2011, at the ACFLS Annual Spring Seminar, she presented a program on Drafting Written Declarations and Offers of Proof under the new Elkins Legislation along with two judges from Southern California. She has previously spoken on the topic of "Valuing Minority Business Interests for Purposes of Divorce" and on the issue of "Joint Legal Custody-When is it Not a Good Idea" at Annual Spring Seminars for the ACFLS (of which organization she served as President in 2003) in Monterey, California.  To find out more about ACFLS go to www.acfls.org. Frieda Gordon was quoted on the front page of the May 22, 2000 issue of the L.A. Times in an article about an appellate court case in which she represented the minor child who was the subject of a dispute between her mother and paternal grandparents over the right to visit with her and recently was featured in the reported case of Butler v. Harris, 2004 DJ DAR 10465 (Aug. 23, 2004) as the drafter of the Amicus Curiae brief on behalf of the Association of Certified Family Law Specialists, supporting the position of the grandparents who asked the Supreme Court to consider the rights of the minor child along with the competing interests of the custodial parents and paternal grandparents. Frieda Gordon spoke at the Annual International Conference of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts in New Orleans, LA on the subject of grandparents' visitation rights.  Frieda also spoke in Seattle, Washington at an AFCC Conference in the Spring of 2005 to therapists, evaluators, mediators, lawyers and judges on the subject of International Abductions to Non-Hague Countries - Risks and Remedies. In January of 2006, Frieda spoke on the same topic to another national audience of lawyers at the National Continuing Legal Education Seminar in Aspen, CO. In April, 2006, Frieda spoke before the statewide Association of Certified Family Law Specialists on the cutting edge topic of Assisted Reproductive Technologies Families' Rights and Remedies. County Bar Association, involving judicial officers, psychological experts and family law specialists on the hot and controversial topic of "Minor's Counsel in Family Law. Several of her articles on topics ranging from the current changes to the tax code, to changes in the law regarding prenups as well as new incites to spousal support are published in the firm's quarterly newsletter as well as on the firm's website.  "Certification/Specialties: Certified as a Specialist in Family Law, California State Board of Legal Specialization, 1990.  She was recently honored by the State Bar of California as a 20-year veteran of the specialist certification program.  She and her partner Avery M. Cooper recently spoke to an audience of their peers on the topic of how new laws and decisions in the probate field are affecting the practice of family law.  Currently she and her partner, Avery M. Cooper lead a thriving boutique firm of five compassionate, creative and skilled attorneys in the Santa Monica, California practice of family law as well as estates and trusts administration and litigation. They all pride themselves in successfully handling highly complex issues in family law and probate and estates with the benefit of the many years of experience and positive results of the two partners.  Frieda works with her clients to determine which direction would be best for her clients.  She is comfortable with whichever forum is chosen, whether targeting litigating, negotiating, mediating or collaborative law as the best method of bringing the matter to a quick, financially and emotionally beneficial resolution.  She strives ultimately to bring to her clients the personal attention they deserve along with the expertise they demand.

  • As a Santa Monica sole practitioner, specializing in family law, probate, guardianships and conservatorships and trust administration and estate planning, Ms. Gordon has argued before several of the California State Appellate Courts and the California State Supreme Court.
