Profile

After graduating from Harvard Law School in 1970, I spent the next 23 years practicing commercial civil litigation involving unfair competition and antitrust disputes. Nineteen years ago, however, a friend called to tell me that his grandmother had died from dehydration in a nursing home. I was sickened by what my investigation uncovered: dehydration, malnutrition and preventable infections are leading causes of death for the elderly in California's nursing homes.

Since that time, I have dedicated my practice to stamping out elder abuse by holding caregivers and facilities accountable for their abuse and neglect. I have spoken in defense of our elders on numerous radio and television programs and handled countless elder law cases.

As Alexis de Tocqueville once wrote, the true measure of a society is how it treats its children and its elders. My continuing goal and passion is to raise the standard of care and respect for these individuals.

In addition to maintaining my practice, I am an adjunct professor at the Pepperdine University College of Law and an arbitrator and settlement officer for the Los Angeles Superior Court. I am also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
