Ms. Somers has established a formidable record of success in mediating settlements regarding employment and civil rights disputes both prelitigation and after litigation has ensued. After almost two decades of advocacy, Ms. Somers is recognized as specializing in employment law and handling wrongful termination and cases dealing with discrimination and harassment because of gender, race, age, pregnancy and disability.
After graduating from UCLA Ms. Somers received both a Ph.D and a Law degree wherein she became a zealous advocate for the disabled in that she is hearing-impaired herself. Ms. Somers has litigated cases successfully for employees that are hearing-impaired, mentally challenged and have Tourette's Syndrome or other disorders whcih are often difficult to accommodate in the workplace. Having a deaf sister , a deaf mother and being hearing-impaired herself (which requires her to wear hearing aids proudly!), Ms. Somers exhibits empathic understanding of those who deal with disabilities and social stigmas in the workplace. Further, Ms. Somers also works with pregnancy discrimination and leave issues.
Ms. Somers speaks to advocacy groups, promotes legal education and community awareness regarding workplace legal issues and accommodation updates. Publications in legal journals and other publications are a part of Ms. Somers background as well. Additionally Ms. Somers represents high-level executives in contract disputes and other workplace issues focusing her attention on disfusing often senstive situations.
