Phil Cook is a trial lawyer in Jones Day's Los Angeles office, with first-chair experience in a number of jury trials, bench trials, and domestic and international arbitrations. He has a successful track record in individual, multiparty and class action litigation, and practices in both state and federal courts. Phil's broad background in commercial litigation includes lawsuits involving contract disputes, B&P section 17200 claims and other business torts, antitrust and trade regulation, patent litigation, corporate governance and securities, insurance coverage, product liability and toxic torts, trade secrets, health care, governmental liability, employment discrimination, real estate and secured transactions, construction defect, religion and other First Amendment, trademark, and environmental liabilities. Before attending law school at UCLA, Phil spent 12 years in the computer and consumer electronics fields. His business experience ranges from marketing and management positions with national Fortune 500 companies to his own entrepreneurial ventures.

- Phil currently serves on the board of directors of Public Counsel, is vice president and a member of the board of governors of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. He is a member of the Litigators' Liaison Committee of the Southern California Mediation Association, as well as the litigation sections of the State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Pro bono/Community Service:
- As the public interest Partner in Jones Day's Los Angeles Office, Phil has directed office pro bono activities since 2000, which includes significant and ongoing representation of Public Counsel and Bet Tzedek clients, among others. Phil also serves as a voluntary settlement conference officer for the Second District Court of Appeal, working to resolve in mediation matters pending in the California appellate courts, and has been appointed as an early neutral evaluator by the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Scholarly Lectures and Writings:
- As an adjunct professor, Phil taught a clinical course in trial practice at Pepperdine University School of Law from 1994 to 1996, and has coached Pepperdine's trial practice teams. He also regularly participates in seminars and workshops teaching deposition, advocacy, mediation, and trial techniques and has appeared on the faculty at local and national continuing legal education seminars.
