Stephen E. Hyam joined Clark & Trevithick in 2004 and practices litigation, commercial law & insolvency, and creditors’ rights law. He represents individuals and businesses in a variety of industries, including construction, restaurant, retail sales, manufacturing, finance/banking, and technology. He has handled disputes ranging from small matters between two individuals to multi-party claims exceeding $20 million. During his time with Clark & Trevithick, Stephen has litigated and tried cases involving trade secret violations, fraud, real estate disputes, and breach of contract. He also has represented creditors and debtors in adversary proceedings in Bankruptcy Court and has substantial experience in representing individuals and small- to mid-market businesses. One business client describes Stephen’s representation: “We’ve had some interesting situations to contend with and you’ve been right there with us, offering sound advice, suggesting proper negotiation tactics, clarifying our legal issues, explaining our options, cleverly fighting our battles, and then following up until the matter is complete.” Before joining Clark & Trevithick, Stephen was a lawyer at Maranga Morgenstern, where he represented insurance companies and their clients as well as self-insured businesses, defending claims resulting from significant and catastrophic injury and death. He defended doctors and hospitals from medical malpractice and elder abuse lawsuits. Stephen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from California State University Northridge in 1995. In 1998, he graduated from Pepperdine University School of Law and was admitted to the California State Bar. He is licensed to practice in California and local Federal District Courts, including the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. Stephen is a member of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel.
