In 2010, Chalat Hatten & Koupal PC extended its record of multimillion-dollar results. In February, Jim Chalat and Evan Banker won an $18.5 million award on behalf of their client, who had been run over by a drunk driver. The judgment included $2 million in punitive damages. It is thought to be the highest auto/pedestrian judgment entered in Colorado courtroom history.

In April, Chris Koupal and Evan Banker collected for their client an appealed jury verdict which included a $100,000 punitive damage award. The judgment was entered against a downtown Denver hotel in a bath tub slip-and-fall case.

In August, Jim Chalat and Russ Hatten won and later collected a substantial judgment entered by a Breckenridge jury in a skier collision case. Veteran court watchers observed that it had been years since a plaintiff’s personal injury jury verdict was returned in Summit County District Court. “As the top plaintiffs’ ski law firm in the nation, we carefully follow developments in ski injury claims. In October 2010, Jim Chalat gave an invited presentation to a first-year torts class at Harvard Law School. The presentation earned top reviews from the professor and students.
