Lance has lived in Colorado his entire life, the last 33 years as a trial lawyer. He graduated (with honors) in history and law from the University of Colorado. He focuses on personal injury, wrongful death, attorney grievance defense, and legal malpractice. He is a fellow of the International Society of Barristers and the Academy of Catastrophic Injury Attorneys, and is past President of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association and the Faculty of Federal Advocates for Colorado. He is the immediate past Chair of the Colorado Judicial Performance Commission and a 24-year member of the Colorado Bar Ethics Committee. He is on the board of trustees and the faculty of the National College of Advocates, and teaches and lectures locally and nationally. He is AV-rated.
