Jay Calvert Cooper was born in 1955 in Portsmouth , Virginia. He attended public schools in Virginia Beach, entered community college and then transferred to Old Dominion University where he obtained an English degree cum laude in 1982. In 1983, Jay enrolled in lawschool at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fl. While at Miami, Jay was a member of the University's Regional Mock Trial Team and was awarded the Order of the Barrister during his third year. After he passed the Florida bar, Jay went to work for Janet Reno as an assistant state attorney in Miami from 1986 to 1988. After working as a criminal prosecutor, Jay became an associate at a Miami insurance defense firm where he stayed until late 1990. On Dec. 7, 1990, Jay switched hats and became a plaintiff's lawyer in a large Fort Myers, Florida lawfirm. Jay has lived in Fort Myers since 1990. He has operated his own lawfirms since 1997 with a concentration in jury trial work and litigation involving serious truck, car and motorcycle accidents, medical malpractice cases, nursing home neglect and abuse claims. insurance coverage claims. premises liability accidents, admiralty claims and commercial fraud matters. Jay is also certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Civil Mediator. He is a member and practices in the Federal Courts for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida. Jay has been board certified in Florida since 1993 as a Civil Trial Specialist. He's been there when the jury came back in over 100 verdicts. Jay Calvert Cooper is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Justice Association and the Florida Justice Association. He's also admitted to practice law in Tennessee.  In his spare time Jay paddles whitewater, scuba dives with reckless abandon and tells stories about the ones that got away!
