John R. Hargrove is senior shareholder, CEO and president of the Boca Raton, Florida, law firm, Hargrove Pierson & Brown, P.A. Mr. Hargrove is a Florida board-certified appellate lawyer. He represents individuals and businesses in complex disputes in the South Florida area, including Boca Raton and Palm Beach, Florida. He is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, the Supreme Court of Florida and intermediate Florida appellate courts. He is rated AV-Preeminent* by Martindale-Hubbell and listed in Best Lawyers in America** in four areas of the law: Appellate Law, Commercial Litigation, First Amendment Law, and Trusts and Estates.

Mr. Hargrove is known in the national legal community for his experience with First Amendment law and as a protector of the elderly from sellers of unsuitable annuities. He also gained attention as being one of the attorneys who represented the Estate of Doctor Sam Sheppard in the late 1990s. Dr. Sheppard’s son sued the state of Ohio, trying to prove with cutting-edge DNA evidence that his father had been wrongfully convicted of murder. The murder inspired the “The Fugitive” television series and movie.

Mr. Hargrove received his undergraduate degree from Butler University in 1969 and law degree from Indiana University School of Law in 1972, where he was senior editor of the Indiana Law Review. Receiving his law degree magna cum laude, the Indiana law professors named Mr. Hargrove the most outstanding student in his class. After graduating from law school, he clerked for the Honorable Roy L. Stephenson of the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit before entering private practice.
