Fastcase

iOS, Android and Windows
$65 per month, or $95 per month for premium

I use Fastcase as a tool to supplement my research. I have the app on my phone and use it to quickly find the case information or language I need in a pinch. It’s easy to use, especially on the go, and, best of all, it is free through my Georgia Bar membership. However, there are drawbacks—which is why it supplements my research and is not my primary tool. For instance, Fastcase will not let you Shepardize. Overall, though, it is a quick and convenient resource with an unbeatable price.

Courthouse Bites

iOS
Free

Courthouse Bites is a fun thing that I developed a few years ago—basically a courthouse dining guide for lawyers. If you’re going to a county you’re not familiar with, you can search on the blog and find restaurant reviews for places that are in that county. Unlike Yelp, where they list every restaurant, this is just the local favorite restaurants in that area—the places you wouldn’t want to miss. Local restaurants are discovered either through word of mouth or by suggestions posted by lawyers to our website. We then conduct research and go visit the restaurant before deciding whether it is worth putting on Courthouse Bites. There is no “advertising” or other way for a restaurant to get recognized. We have 55 counties in Georgia that are represented. The app works with the GPS on your phone. So when you’re coming out of the courthouse, it will point you to the closest Courthouse Bites restaurant and give you directions and reviews.
