David Michael "Mike" Conner is a Partner in the Savannah/Jesup law firm of Bouhan Williams & Levy L.L.P. Mike has a broad-ranging litigation and business development practice, with a concentration on complex commercial matters, business organization and formation, business disputes, commercial disputes, construction and surety cases, class actions, mass torts, and, most particularly, personal injury litigation. Mr. Conner is admitted to practice in the State of Georgia, Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Georgia, and all appellate and local courts of the State of Georgia. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the American Bar Association, and the Savannah Bar Association. In addition, he is a member of the American Trial Lawyers' Association, the Litigation Counsel of America and Council on Ethical Billing.Mike obviously promotes a diverse trial practice. He has represented Fortune 500 companies and single individuals. He has tried the largest condemnation case in the history of South Georgia - achieving an award of over $30 million - but successfully defended a national telephone carrier to a settlement of $23. He has obtained injunctions for business clients, and dissolved them for individual stockbrokers. He has effectively defended wrongful death cases for insurance companies, and prosecuted them for grieving survivors. He has defended corporations in dissident shareholder suits, and represented members of an employee stock option plan in a dispute with a host corporation. Mike is regarded as a formidable litigator by his peers. He has been named a Georgia Super Lawyer - Rising Star for two consecutive years. This is his second consecutive year being named to Georgia Rising Stars. Only 5 percent of the total lawyers in the State are selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers. Mike also was recently inducted as a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society based in New York City. Membership is by invitation only, and fellows are carefully selected based upon evaluations of effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation and superior ethical reputation. The LCA is comprised of less than one-half of 1 percent of American lawyers, with a maximum membership of 3,500 lawyers nationally. Mike is also a fellow of The Council on Ethical Billing (CEB). The CEB is an alliance of select attorneys, law firms, insurance companies, risk managers and general counsel of some of the nation's largest businesses, coming together to promote high levels of performance and ethics in defense litigation. Selected risk managers, general counsel, and insurance executives are Fellows of the Council. Selection of attorneys and law firms to the Council by Fellows is indicative of their reputation for performance, ethics and professional commitment to the community and diversity. Thus, the exclusivity of an invitation to join the Council is itself an achievement. To be a Member Attorney or Firm of the Council is to make a statement that makes a difference -- a statement whose origins are born from integrity and relevance. Mike's success in the legal profession was preceded by his excellent academic achievements. In 1988, Mike was recognized as a STAR Student by the State of Georgia. In 1992, Mike graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia, Terry School of Business - J.M. Tull School of Accounting with a B.B.A. in accounting. He obtained his J.D. summa cum laude from the University of Georgia, Lumpkin School of Law in 1995. While in undergraduate school, Mike was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Kappa. As a law student, he served as The Georgia League Articles Editor, was active on the Mock Trial Team, and was a member of Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity. Mike also was the Chief Advocate for the University of Georgia's Defender/Advocate Society. Mike concentrates on two areas of the law practice. He tries civil lawsuits. He assists in the formation and administration of businesses. As stated, Mike has an accounting degree from the University of Georgia, J.M. School of Accounting. Mike graduated magna cum laude from the accounting school, and has often used his business background to effectively represent clients in contested business matters. Indeed, he has been called upon by clients like BellSouth Telephone Company (now AT&T), the Southern Company, International Paper, Zurich Insurance Company, HSBC Bank, and others to represent their substantial financial interests in contested business matters. That "big litigation" experience and accounting background similarly give Mike particular insight into corporate formation and organizational matters. Through that experience and background, Mike is able to guide and direct clients who desire to create new businesses or effectuate change in existing ones. Mike's "heart," however, is in representing the broken - people whose lives have been decimated by tragedy. For instance, he successfully represented the grieving mother of two children killed in a tragic automobile fire following an automobile collision - obtaining millions of dollars of compensation for that mother. He also had the pleasure of representing the sad family who lost a four-year child in an automobile wreck - again achieving a multi-million resolution for that family. He also has obtained compensation for the widow and two minor children of a hard-working husband/father who was killed traveling to work in Savannah. Similarly, he has represented a variety of people who have been maimed, hurt and forever changed by these kinds of horrific incidents. Mike is a big-firm lawyer with a small-person heart. Mike is foremost a husband to his wife, Toni, and father to his two boys - Cullen and David. Mike is equally passionate about his community. He is currently general counsel to St. John Baptist Church, a 200-year-old African-American congregation in Savannah. He is also a member of the Savannah Men of Integrity and a member of Savannah Christian Church. He has also been active in his local bar, serves on boards of local nonprofit organizations, and holds a variety of management positions within his law firm.
