Attorney Michael A. Caldwell has been practicing law for over 40 years. A co-founder of DeLong, Caldwell, Bridgers & Fitzpatrick, LLC, in Atlanta, Georgia, he focuses his practice in the areas of labor and employment law. He provides proactive counseling to corporate clients, executives, managers and individual employees in all areas of employment and labor management law. This includes statutory and regulatory compliance, litigation under all federal and state discrimination laws, wage-hour law, OSHA, ERISA, union organizing, unfair labor practice cases. He also represents them in litigation of employee benefit claims, non-compete covenants and trade secrets litigation, employment contracts, executive severance agreements, and in investigations and defense of harassment, whistle blowing and wrongful termination claims. He is an expert in public employment law, Human Resources Management, law enforcement disciplinary proceedings and liability. He is an arbitrator and trained mediator, and a municipal personnel hearing officer. He serves as General Counsel for both the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police,and the Georgia Chapter of FBI National Academy Associates. He also serves as a virtual Human Resources Director for municipalities and small companies. He is an adjunct professor of Human Resources Management and Law at the Law Enforcement Command College at Columbus State University.
He is a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, the State Bar of Georgia, Maryland State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the Atlanta Bar Association, Federal Bar Association and the Lawyers Club of Atlanta. He has served as Chair of the Labor and Employment Section, Chair of the Federal Court Liaison Committee and as Vice-Chair of the Staff Compensation Committee of the of the State Bar of Georgia. He has served as a member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the NASD, American Arbitration Association, National Arbitration Forum, and National Arbitration and Mediation Service.
Michael received his J.D. and his B.A. with honors from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Before entering private practice he served as a staff and trial attorney for the National Labor Relations Board in both Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Maryland.
