In law school Richard Griffin focused on and excelled in tort (personal injury), litigation, and worker’s compensation studies. In 1993-1994 Richard Griffin served as the president of the Student Trial Lawyers Association. In 1994 Richard Griffin was also a state finalist (second place finish) in the Intrastate Mock Trial Competition involving Georgia State College of Law, Georgia Law School, and Mercer Law School. Richard Griffin also enjoyed an internship at The State Board of Workers’ Compensation where he assisted the Workers’ Compensation Judges and their staff attorneys writing orders and awards for the workers’ compensation cases tried. Richard Griffin also excelled in his tort (personal injury / wrongful death classes), advanced litigation classes, and worker’s compensation classes (taught by the Honorable Patricia Killingworth) while in law school. During his studies at Emory University and Georgia State College of Law, Richard Griffin gained invaluable experience working for a local law firm that specialized in Wrongful Death, Personal Injury, and Workers’ Compensation law.COLLEGE EDUCATION – EMORY UNIVERSITY Attorney Richard Griffin graduated from Emory University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Education in 1991. This case involved a Sub-Zero refrigerator that was installed without the required anti-tilt kit. A young mother of three daughters was crushed by the refrigerator against a granite counter top. The past medical bills totaled $80,000 and the future medical costs were projected as an additional $40,000. Doctors concluded that injections were the only treatment that would help. The Jury in Dalton, Georgia awarded $740,000 in compensatory damages and $260,000 in punitive damages. The total jury verdict was $1,000,000.
- $2.5 MILLION DOLLAR PERSONAL INJURY JURY VERDICT – CAR WRECK CAUSED A FRACTURED LEG, PUNCTURED LUNG, COMA: This 2,500,000 jury verdict involved serious injuries (fractured leg, broken ribs, punctured lung, coma, etc.). The car wreck was caused by a teenager who was racing in a Nissan 300ZX who lost control and hit our client head-on. Our client was cut from his Mazda pickup truck by firemen who used the jaws of life. This two and a half million dollar jury verdict was awarded in Gainesville, Georgia.
