With eight offices, Kanoski & Associates is one of the largest central Illinois law firms focusing exclusively on personal injury, medical malpractice and workers’ compensation law. Drawing from a population of nearly one million people, the firm’s cadre of 12 attorneys regularly takes on cases in the region’s major cities, as well as the neighboring rural communities.

Throughout the past 30 years, Kanoski & Associates has obtained more than $200 million in personal injury and workers’ compensation verdicts and settlements for its clients, regularly taking referrals from other attorneys throughout Illinois and across the country. Some of the firm’s more significant results have come from referral arrangements.

“Most central Illinois attorneys understand the value in referring major cases to litigation attorneys that have experience with the conservative juries you see in our nonurban environment,” says Ron Kanoski, attorney and founder.

The firm is especially proud of Kennith W. Blan Jr.’s inclusion on the 2008 Super Lawyers® list. Blan, through his Danville, Ill., office, has had a long-term referral relationship with Kanoski & Associates. In addition to maintaining that office, he is now of counsel to Kanoski & Associates, working out of the Springfield office. He heads the firm’s medical malpractice division, devoting 100 percent of his time to litigating cases that involve professional negligence and medical products liability, as well as nursing home neglect cases. “Ken’s addition to the team helps round out our firm’s expertise,” Kanoski says.

Ron and Ken—both members of the board of managers of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association—hold the same philosophy:Health-care providers should be held strictly accountable for their patients’ welfare. “The first rule of medicine is: ‘Do no harm.’ Unfortunately, whether it’s because of being overworked, a momentary distraction, or simple arrogance, this principle is not always reflected in the practice of some physicians and health-care providers,” says Blan.

FULL SPECTRUM OF CASES

Kanoski & Associates is separated into three distinct departments: workers’ compensation, personal injury negotiations and litigation. This separation allows the firm to help victims with routine claims without compromising the focus required to help people with more serious or catastrophic injuries.

The firm has particular strength in representing injured workers. “We have some of the state’s leading workers’ compensation attorneys who are very active and very successful,” says Kanoski. “We are willing to compare their success rate in arbitrations or appeals with any other workers’ compensation attorneys in the state.”

TECHNICAL SOPHISTICATION

With a caseload that encompasses auto accidents, defective products, premises liability and other injury matters, Kanoski & Associates developed proprietary software to help track matters from intake through negotiation or verdict. The computer program the firm developed in house is now sold by an independent software vendor and is trusted by more than 10,000 people.
