The attorneys at the Healy Law Firm provide experienced legal representation in difficult, complex cases. Their practice areas include product liability, interstate trucking, auto and railroad injury, construction injury, medical malpractice, aviation injury and workers’ compensation. Four attorneys at the firm have been selected to Super Lawyers®.
The firm has set precedents in Illinois and achieved landmark verdicts and settlements in many cases. During the last two years, for example, its attorneys recorded five settlements and verdicts totaling approximately $60 million. These included a $20.7 million settlement with Chrysler involving hemiparesis and the death of a child from a product defect in a Plymouth Voyager minivan, a $9.2 million verdict for a wrongful death case on a construction site, a $5.2 million settlement for failure to diagnose a perforated ulcer, which resulted in brain damage, and $6 million for an Irish carpenter injured by a school bus. Most recently, in November, 2007, a Cook County jury awarded a total of $20.2 million to three families whose children were killed when a Dean Foods tractor-trailer struck the Pontiac Grand Am in which they were driving at an intersection in Indiana. Attorneys from The Healy Law Firm represented the estates of the two teenagers who were passengers in the car.
Previous to these verdicts and settlements, the firm received a $24 million verdict in O’Brien v. Yamaha, which was the largest verdict for a paraplegic in Illinois.
The firm’s attorneys hold and have held offices and positions with the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association (President, Secretary, Treasurer and Parliamentarian); the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, now the American Association for Justice (Member, Executive Committee; Member, Board of Governors; Chair, Product Liability Section; Chair, Truck Underride Litigation Group; Executive Committee, Interstate Trucking Litigation Group), the Illinois State Bar Association (Chairs, Tort Law Section Council; Members, Assembly), the Chicago Bar Association (Chairs, Tort Litigation Committee), the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (Chapter Authors) and Workers' Compensation Lawyers Association (Vice-President and Treasurer). They volunteer time and resources to pro bono efforts and have served on Illinois Supreme Court Committees including: Illinois Pattern Jury Instruction Committee; Commissioner, Character and Fitness Committee and the Supreme Court Rules Committee (Immediate Past Chair for three-year term).
Founder Martin Healy, Jr., son of immigrant parents from Ireland, is very active in the Irish Community and Irish organizations including The Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago (President), Irish American Heritage Center (Chairman, Library Fundraising Committee), Celtic Legal Society (President) and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee (Annual Dinner Chair and Board of Directors).
