Richard Kuhlman uses innovative legal techniques in death and catastrophic injury cases, including deposing experts, establishing negligent road design can cause crashes, proving that inhaling hydrogen can cause cellular level brain damage invisible on imaging studies, and demonstrating how future criminal attacks at a particular location can be foreseeable. Richard has achieved 15 verdicts and settlements over $1 million, three in the last four years, and authored five law books. He has written over 50 legal articles, chaired three ABA National Teaching Institutes, and lectured before the American, Chicago, and Illinois Bar Associations many times.

- Mr. Kuhlman has written two nationally published books on the law,KILLER ROADS,which dealt with vehicle crash litigation arising out of negligent road design and maintenance,and SAFE PLACES?,which dealt with security and breach of security litigation.He has written a series of books on transportation negligence for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education.and numerous articles for The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin ,Res Gestae,and other legal publications around the country.He has spoken before the Chicago Bar Association,The Southern Clifornia Defense Counsel Association, the Illinois Institute For Continuing Legal Education,and The American Bar Association.
Verdicts and Settlements:
- Mr.Kuhlman has tried over a hundred jury cases.He has more than fifteen jury verdicts and settlements over one million dollars,the most recent of which was a 4,500,000 dollar jury verdict in Dormanv.Sysco Food Services,tried in the Circuit Court of Cook County,Illinois,returned in November,2010.Within the past few years he also recieved a jury verdict for 2,500,000 dollars in the case of a teenage boy who drowned in the pool of a condominium he was visiting,and a settlement for 1,500,000 dollars in the case of a suicidal teenage girl who was not properly m onitored by the institution where she was staying and,as a result ,jumped off a balcony,suffering spinal injuries.He also achieved a settlement over one million dollars in what was,so far as could be determined,the first case where someone(a steel worker)suffereed brain damage from inhaling nitrogen but survived.He also settled two of the cases in a mass death at J&L Steel,where an entire blast furnace crew was wiped out by a massive gas leak. He was also one of the national leaders in establishing that negligent design and marking of roads can cause,or intensify,driver error,thereby causing crashes,work that led to his nationally published legal best seller,"Killer roads."
Other Outstanding Achievements:
- Legal representative on advisory group reporting on workplace violence to officials of the U.S.Postal Department.The second edition of my first book,KILLER ROADS,waspublished under the title KUHLMAN'S KILLER ROADS by Lexus Law Publishing in 1999.
Educational Background:
- Mr.Kuhlman ran three national teaching institutes on transportation negligence for the American Bar Association.He has also been a moot court judge for the Northwestern University School of Law.
