Profile

Scott C. Sullivan is a partner in the Firm's commercial litigation and business law practice groups. He has represented financial institutions, public corporations, media companies, health care providers, physician practice groups, governmental entities, small businesses, insurance companies and individuals. Since joining WilliamsMcCarthy in 1979, he has consulted and represented clients in matters involving buy-sell agreements, partnership agreements, contractual matters, construction claims, business fraud, physician-hospital disputes, trade secrets, libel claims, employee non-competition agreements, employment matters, creditor's rights, fiduciary duties of corporate officers, unfair competition, Lanham Act, lender liability, contests for corporate control, business valuations, administrative tax disputes, will and trust contests, trade regulation, ERISA, insurance issues and shareholder rights.For example, Mr. Sullivan has represented several national brokerage companies in state and federal courts involving employee non-competition clauses. In the fiduciary duty area, he consulted management in connection with claims against former corporate officers. He has also provided counsel and litigated claims involving the value of minority interests in closely held corporations. He routinely counsels corporate, institutional and small business clients on legal issues affecting their business operations.  He also represents several European Union companies with respect to their U.S. operations.

Honors and Awards:

  • Mr. Sullivan graduated summa cum laude in Finance from the University of Notre Dame in 1976 and cum laude in 1979 from the Notre Dame Law School. Other academic honors include receipt of the Wall Street Journal Award for Excellence in Finance, Beta Gamma Sigma and being named a Notre Dame Scholar. Special Licenses/Certifications:

  • Mr. Sullivan is a court certified mediator in both state and federal courts and in 2003 was appointed as a federal mediator for the Western Division of the Northern District of Illinois. He has participated in a wide variety of arbitrations and mediations of commercial, unfair competition, shareholder disputes and contract and business tort disputes.

Pro bono/Community Service:

  • Mr. Sullivan is an active volunteer in his community with service on the boards of directors of the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Rockford Area Arts Council, the Friends of the Coronado Theater, and the Natural Land Institute. He is also a trustee of the Smith Charitable Foundation and a member of the executive committee of the Notre Dame Law Association, the alumni board of the Notre Dame Law School.
