Tom Patterson prepares and tries lawsuits for businesses, professionals, and entrepreneurs. His book, Handling the Business Emergency: Temporary Restraining Orders and Preliminary Injunctions, was just published by the American Bar Association. Prior teaching includes an online legal education course on the attorney-client privilege and lectures on e-commerce. Prior writings include articles on non-pattern jury instructions and a law review case note on ex parte contacts in administrative proceedings. After serving as a Law Clerk for Justice William G. Clark of the Illinois Supreme Court from 1979-1981, he began his career at a large Chicago law firm, but now offers clients his unique experience in a firm that is the size of a boutique.

Other Outstanding Achievements:
- I have now authored a book, Handling the Business Emergency: temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions, published by the American Bar Association. The first half of the book explains how to seek or defend against such emergency injunctions (the rules and standards), bond requirements, how to draft orders, enforcement of an injunction if it is violated, modification and appeals, and strategy and tactics. The second half of the book includes chapters on recurrent issues: asset protection; infringement of trademarks, copyrights and patents; restrictive covenants; trade secrets, and shareholder disputes. Each chapter includes text explaining the law and charts and forms as appropriate.,
