Profile

At Leahy & Hoste in Chicago, Illinois, Tom Leahy serves injured plaintiffs and their families throughout the greater Chicago area, and he also takes on general civil litigation and professional malpractice cases. With more than 30 years of trial litigation experience at multiple prominent plaintiffs' personal injury firms and experience on the other side of the docket as a defense litigator for the firm that eventually became Clausen Miller PC, Mr. Leahy is a well-rounded and keen litigator with an impressive track record. His landmark verdicts and settlements stretching back to 1977 total well in excess of $100 million. Representative cases include Lake County's first seven-figure verdict and a string of similar cases that followed it on behalf of the families of individuals killed or injured in commercial vehicle accidents. In 1994, he successfully obtained a $6 million verdict against Loyola University Medical Center on behalf of an injured millwright who lost his livelihood due to a botched spinal cord surgery.

Mr. Leahy is highly involved in several professional organizations. He currently serves the Illinois State Bar Association in multiple capacities, including positions on its Insurance Law Section and Board of Governors, for which he served as president in 1993 and 1994. Since 1979, he has served on no less than four committees for the Chicago Bar Association. In addition, Mr. Leahy's stalwart efforts to promote gender diversity in the state bar committees have earned him accolades from the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers, and he has also garnered an AV-Preeminent* rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Admitted to practice in Illinois in 1977, Mr. Leahy received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame du Lac, and he earned a law degree from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He lives with his family in Chicago.

*AV-Preeminent is a certification mark of Reed Elsevier Properties Inc., used in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies.
