Profile

A partner of Davis, Saunders & Miller Law Firm, of Mandeville, Louisiana, attorney Benjamin B. Saunders represents plaintiffs in cases involving railroad accidents, maritime personal injury and aviation accidents.

Before obtaining his law degree from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, Mr. Saunders originally endeavored to become a doctor. While waiting for an opening in medical school, he attended law school and quickly discovered how his knowledge of science could greatly aid personal injury victims. The first big personal injury case he handled out of law school involved a head injury to a railroad worker. Since then, he has focused his practice on representing injured railroad employees under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA).

Today, Mr. Saunders is a national leader in representing railroad workers who are hurt on the job. Among his many leadership roles, Mr. Saunders served as designated legal counsel for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen from 1999-2002. In 1994, he served as the chairman of the Railroad Law Section of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), of which he is still an active member. He also served as president of the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys (ARLA) from 1999-2000. Due to his extensive knowledge and dedicated trial skills, Mr. Saunders has won several multimillion-dollar verdicts and settlements in cases throughout the southeastern United States.

His firm also represents injured seamen under the Jones Act and other select cases involving accidents that occurred at railroad crossings or in mid-air collisions and commercial airplane accidents.
