Profile

Larry Curtis is the leading partner of the law firm Larry Curtis, maritime attorney, in Lafayette, Louisiana. As a personal injury attorney, his primary focus is on representing maritime workers and their families in cases that involve offshore drilling rigs or platforms, offshore oil and gas production platforms, supply boats, utility boats, crew boats, construction barges, pipe-laying barges, dynamically positioned vessels, seismic vessels, jack-up boats and dive boats.

In one landmark case, Clausen vs. Icicle Seafoods, Mr. Curtis and a colleague obtained $1.3 million in punitive damages for a seaman who was injured while working on a fish-processing barge. The case is believed to have been the first punitive damage award against a shipowner since the U.S. Supreme Court's final ruling in the case of Atlantic Sounding Inc. vs. Townsend. Mr. Curtis also holds an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and is listed in the Martindale-Hubbell bar register of Preeminent Lawyers for admiralty/maritime law and personal injury law.

In addition to his legal activities, Mr. Curtis hosts a local TV program on Catholic social teaching once a month, which focuses on the seven values of Catholic social thought regarding the sanctity and fundamental rights of humanity.

*AV Preeminent and BV Distinguished are certification marks of Reed Elsevier Properties Inc., used in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies. Martindale-Hubbell is the facilitator of a peer review rating process. Ratings reflect the anonymous opinions of members of the bar and the judiciary. Martindale-Hubbell peer review ratings fall into two categories: legal ability and general ethical standards.
