Susan Carol Elgin is a partner at Kaufman, Ries & Elgin, P.A., a Towson, Maryland-based family law firm. With more than three decades of experience, Ms. Elgin is committed to serving individuals and families throughout the state in matters of divorce, alimony, child support, child custody, separation agreements, mediation and arbitration, and prenuptial agreements, with an emphasis on litigation. She has extensive experience before both state and appellate courts.

Rated AV-Preeminent* by Martindale-Hubbell, Ms. Elgin is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the bar associations for Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Washington County as well as the Maryland State Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Baltimore Chapter of the Maryland Women's Bar Association. She is a fellow of the American Association of Matrimonial Lawyers and the current president of the organization's Maryland chapter.

In addition, Ms. Elgin is one of the founders of the Bruce A. Kaufman Center for Family Law, and she has published several articles in the Maryland Bar Journal. She regularly lectures on family law topics at continuing legal education seminars throughout the state.

A Maryland native, Ms. Elgin earned her undergraduate degree at Franklin & Marshall College and then obtained her law degree from The George Washington University Law School before gaining admission before Maryland courts in 1979. A decade later, she was also admitted to practice law in the state of Texas. Over the course of her legal career, Ms. Elgin has received several professional honors, including the Daily Record's Leadership in Law Award in 2001 and, in 2005, the Maryland Legal Services Corporation's Arthur W. Machen, Jr. Award, traditionally awarded to members of the private bar who have displayed exemplary commitment to serving the legal needs of the poor and working to reform the legal system.
