Brian M. Haney is an associate at Cooley Manion Jones where his practice focuses on a wide variety of complex business and commercial litigation, employment litigation, and domestic relations matters. Formerly a law clerk to the Justices at the Massachusetts Superior Court, Brian has litigated before the state and federal courts in Massachusetts at both the trial and appellate level.
Brian’s recent accomplishments on behalf of the Firm’s clients include:
Commercial Litigation:
- Prevailed at summary judgment both in Massachusetts and New Hampshire on behalf of the owner of an automobile dealership chain engaged in litigation against his former shareholder.
- On behalf of an international manufacturer of athletic and casual apparel, defeated multiple, complex, motions for summary judgment motions brought to defeat client’s claim of legal malpractice.
- Service as trial counsel for multi-billion utility company in matters related to negligent damage and destruction of company’s facilities.
Employment Litigation:
- Provided counsel to numerous senior executives of international pharmaceuticals company and insurance conglomerate as to rights under executive employment agreements, severance agreements, and separation plans.
- Defeated at summary judgment claims of discrimination brought against a multi-national food service and facilities management company by its former employee. This decision was appealed to and affirmed by the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
- Again at the summary judgment stage, secured the dismissal of an employee’s claims of sexual assault levied against the premier global provider of quality of daily life service solutions.
Domestic Relations:
- Negotiated the settlement of a divorce involving parties who owned multiple parcels of residential and commercial land in the Chilmark area of Martha’s Vineyard .
- Crafted the divorce settlement for owner of multiple mechanical and HVAC companies. Resolution of case required acute knowledge and application of complex business valuation principles and resulted in favorable division of corporate assets and successful structuring of alimony payment and buyout provisions.
- Concluded the divorce of a former star player for the New England Revolution soccer club. Settlement reached on terms favorable to our client.
