Profile

Neil Sugarman is a founder and principal attorney of Sugarman and Sugarman, P.C. He is recognized throughout Boston and Massachusetts legal communities for his leading experience in the complex areas of products liability, medical malpractice, construction site accidents, admiralty, and personal injury litigation. With more than 40 years of experience, Mr. Sugarman has successfully recovered significant settlements and verdicts in some of the most catastrophic explosion and fire accident cases in the state of Massachusetts.

Prior to founding the firm in 1967, Attorney Neil Sugarman was a Captain in the U.S. Army Signal Corp and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in the Vietnam conflict. In addition to his personal experience in private practice, he has argued leading appellate cases involving the expansion of personal injury law and consumer rights. He is a regular lecturer on complex areas of civil litigation and is a regular contributing writer to various legal publications locally and nationally.

Representative cases include a significant recovery for a sodium explosion in a chemical plant causing injury to 11 firefighters, recovery against a transportation and bus manufacturer following the deaths of four middle school students, a sizeable recovery on appeal on behalf of a catastrophically injured state trooper who was denied coverage, and a major recovery on behalf of a widow and injured co-workers of a Massachusetts transportation company for a defectively designed train horn device.

Mr. Sugarman has held executive and leadership positions with every major legal association in Massachusetts and is on the Advisory Board of the N. Neal Pike Institute on Law and Disability at Boston University School of Law. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, is a past president of the Boston University School of Law Alumni Association, and is a past president of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys. He was named as a Top Attorney in Massachusetts and New England, a New England and Massachusetts Super Lawyer 2010 in Boston Magazine and named as the Boston Best Lawyers Product Liability Litigator of the Year 2010.
