Nolan has a winning record that spans his entire career–in fact, he has won most of his major criminal and civil trials. He prevailed in cases that include jury verdicts of acquittal for first-degree murder, manslaughter, negligent homicide, breaking and entering, criminal sexual conduct, drug-related offenses, malicious destruction of property and drunk driving. Nolan has won multimillion-dollar verdicts and awards on behalf of plaintiffs in a number of wrongful death cases and personal injury suits. His personal injury and wrongful death settlements and awards total more than $31 million. He has also successfully handled numerous paternity suits and juvenile matters. Nolan represents clients in both state and federal courts throughout Michigan, and he has also brought two cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.
COMMUNITY LEADER
In addition to his courtroom success, Nolan has served in many leadership positions in a wide range of professional and community organizations. He has been a member of the board of directors of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School–the largest law school in the country–for 23 years, and has served as its vice chairperson for the past 10 years. He has served as president of the Ingham County Bar Association, the Ingham County Bar Foundation and the Thomas M. Cooley Inns of Court. In recognition of his stature in the legal community, Nolan has been listed in Michigan Super Lawyers®.
