Profile

George Thompson graduated from the University of Michigan and was licensed to practice law in 1978.  He worked as a clerk for the Court of Appeals for one year, before entering private practice in Traverse City. Although his practice was initially broader, it quickly became dominated by civil liability claims involving serious personal injury or death.  Within that area of practice, Thompon has particular expertise in Michigan's complicated No Fault and medical malpractice compensation schemes.  After serving on State Bar Committees involving trial practice, he served one year as the Chairman of the Bar's Civil Procedure Committee.Concomitantly with his trial practice helping injury victims, Thompson has dedicated a significant measure of his professional time to assisting the disadvanatged through pro bono litigation and service on Community Boards that serve Mental Health clients, Goodwill Industries and the Women's Resource Center.  He was a prime mover behind the creation of the Hospitality House that serves Mundon Medical Center as a result of his contact with a northern Michigan family pursuing a malpractice claim.  He has been asked to speak on civil litigation and trial skills issues on many occasions, before the Trial Lawyers Association, the State Bar, the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and other groups.  He has been included as a "Superlawyer" each time the list has been published in Michigan.
