Profile

Robert M. Raitt rallies tirelessly for Michigan plaintiffs, especially those injured in auto accidents. He is a partner of Gursten, Koltonow, Gursten, Christensen and Raitt, PC, and recently finished a term as president of the Michigan Association for Justice. Formerly the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association, the Michigan Association for Justice is a victims’ rights organization comprised of more than 1,700 personal injury attorneys across the state. For the past five years, Bob was a Michigan Association for Justice officer. Previously, he served on the Michigan Association for Justice executive board for several years. He has enjoyed the challenges inherent in leading the organization in its fight to obtain justice for people who have been injured or taken advantage of by special interests.Bob has been a speaker and moderator at various seminars for the State Bar of Michigan, the National Business Institute and the Michigan Association for Justice. He has also spoken before the Michigan Legislature on behalf of car accident victims who’ve had their rights stripped by the state’s auto threshold law.Bob is a Michigan Super Lawyer and an AV-Rated lawyer by Martindale Hubbell, the highest rating for legal ability and ethics. He is also named one of Michigan's top lawyers by DBusiness magazine. Before becoming an auto accident attorney, Bob graduated with honors from both the University of Michigan and Wayne State University Law School. While in practice, Bob has been successful in receiving many jury verdicts, arbitration awards and negotiated settlements with very favorable results for his clients. For example, he received a trial verdict of more than $1.5 million for an elderly woman who had a serious aggravation of life-long rheumatoid arthritis when she was injured due to the negligence of a corporate entity. The defendant strongly disputed liability and made no offer prior to trial.Settlements include a $1.2 million resolution for a client who suffered a traumatic brain injury and permanent disability in an automobile collision; $900,000 for a woman who was struck by a cart filled with car doors at an auto plant, causing serious injury to her lower back; and $685,000 for a client who had a mild traumatic brain injury and a shoulder injury, where the defendant strongly argued the cause of the injuries. In 2008, Bob received a $1.15 million settlement for a case in which the client sustained a skull fracture, finger fracture and disc herniations after a truck crane arm struck him. Through arbitration, Bob obtained $875,000 for a woman who suffered multiple fractures to her legs in an auto accident. The defendant’s offer prior to arbitration was nominal. Additionally, a $535,000 award was recently received for a man who suffered a mild traumatic brain injury following a car crash. The matter was strongly contested due to several previous injury accidents and disabilities.Meanwhile, Bob values the opportunity to crusade for his clients against the insurance industry and an overly conservative Michigan Supreme Court. His continuous service within the Michigan Association for Justice allows him to further his commitment to help auto accident victims obtain just compensation.
