Steven M. Gursten is recognized as one of the nation’s top experts in serious car accident and truck accident injury cases and automobile insurance no-fault litigation.  Out of more than 40,000 practicing attorneys in Michigan, Steve is a Michigan Lawyers Weekly Lawyer of the Year and Leader in the Law. He is listed in the Best Lawyers in America directory and is also highlighted as one of the Best Lawyers in Metro Detroit in DBusiness magazine.  Based on opinions of attorneys throughout Michigan, Steve has been selected as an AV-rated lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest lawyer rating available for legal ability and ethics. He is also recognized as a Top 100 Trial Lawyer by the American Trial Lawyers Association, and is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.  In addition to achieving some of the highest reported car and truck accident settlements each year for injury victims in Michigan, Steve has received the largest jury verdict in automobile accident cases for four of the past eight years. In 2010, the auto accident attorney received Michigan's top-reported verdict for a truck accident, according to a verdicts and settlements report by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.  Steve donates dozens of hours in legal pro-bono work by helping families of people killed in motor vehicle accidents with only minimum policy limits.  Steve is extensively involved in the legal community in Michigan and across the country. He was president of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Interstate Truck Litigation Group for the 2007-08 term. The national group is composed of truck accident attorneys working to make unsafe trucking companies follow the laws, and better prepare lawyers who handle serious truck accident cases. Currently, he is on the board of governors representing Michigan for the Association of Plaintiff Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America. Steve also serves on the executive board of the AAJ Traumatic Brain Injury Group; a group of trial attorneys who dedicate major portions of their legal practices to helping victims of traumatic brain injury. Steve has served on the executive board of the Michigan Association for Justice (formerly the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association), where he co-chairs the Automobile Accident No-Fault Committee. Furthermore, Steve is a contributing author to various legal periodicals and textbooks, including the State Bar of Michigan Negligence Law Section Quarterly. He is author of “Handling Automobile Accident Cases” in the Michigan Lawyers Manual, published by West Publications. Because he is considered the authority on Michigan auto accident cases, Steve frequently lectures at legal seminars for auto accident attorneys on topics such as trial advocacy, Michigan no-fault auto law, traumatic brain injury cases and maximizing settlements for those injured in serious car and truck accidents.

  • Steven M. Gursten, truck accident attorney and partner of Michigan Auto Law, discusses the phases of a truck accident lawsuit to help other attorneys handling truck accident cases. He stresses that settling with an insurance company before a lawsuit doesnt work in a truck accident case; and that one of the most critical things lawyers need to win is to show that the truck was defective and never should have been on the road. This can be done in the investigation, by obtaining valuable inspection reports and documents from a trucking company very quickly before they are legally destroyed. www.michiganautolaw.com, How to Find All Insurance and Defendants in a Truck Accident Lawsuit
  • Steve Gursten, truck accident attorney and partner of Michigan Auto Law, discusses the reason Michigan has so many truck accidents: The state does not allow for punitive damages. Punitive damages are are additional monies awarded to a plaintiff by a court, punishing a defendant that acted with recklessness, malice or deceit. Because Michigan does not have punitives, trucking companies that knowingly hire unqualified, careless truck drivers who commit safety violations that cause truck crashes, will not be punished. And the most dangerous truckers will continue to come to Michigan to find work, as they cannot legally work in states that have punitive damages and stricter trucking laws. www.michiganautolaw.com, Why So Many Truck Accidents in Michigan? No Punitive Damages
  • Steve Gursten, truck accident lawyer and Michigan Auto Law partner, discusses the importance of hiring an expert truck accident lawyer following a truck crash that causes personal injury or wrongful death.
