Steven N. Garmo is a Partner in the Immigration law firm of Garmo & Associates, P.C., in Farmington Hills and Sterling Heights, Michigan and San Diego (El Cajon), CA where he concentrates solely on U.S. Immigration Law. Pro bono/Community Service:
- Steven N. Garmo is a volunteer attorney with the Chaldean Federation of America. www.chaldeanfederation.org. As a volunteer attorney, Mr. Garmo has been working to advocate, provide assistance and work on legislative fix on behalf of Iraqi refugees who worked with the US military in Iraq, those with family member in the US and those in removal proceedins inside the US. He previously worked with Senator Carl Levin's office in drafting portions of the Iraqi Refugee Crisis Act. On January 28, 2008, President George W. Bush signed the Refugee Crisis Act into law. The Act provides help to Iraqi's in and outside their country and allowed those with final order of deportation to have their case reopened. In 2007. Mr Garmo worked on the Iraqi Christian Adjustment Iraqi Refugee Crisis Act, which passed the Senate in 2007 but failed in the house. The bill if passed would have allowed Iraqi Christians to adjust their status in the United States to help make immigration easier. Mr. Garmo continues to work on the Iraqi refugee issues and is a tireless advocate for refugees being forced to flee their home.
Mr. Garmo has been providing Pro bono Services to refugees and indigents community in South Eastern Michigan for the past several years. His two offices in Sterling Heights and Farmington Hills, MI provide weekly walk in assistance to many refugees and indigents., 2005
Scholarly Lectures and Writings:
- Mr. Garmo moderated the immigration panel at the 2011 Journalism Conference of the National American Arab Journalists Association (NAAJA) held in Dearborn, Michigan on APRIL 29 - MAY 1, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The conference covered “American Arab Journalism 10 Years since Sept. 11th strengthening our role in educating the American Public & the Arab World”. Mr. Garmo discussed issues affecting Arab Americans who like other foreign born population are affected by the current broken immigration system.

Verdicts and Settlements:
- In a decision dated February 16, 2006, Chief U.S. District Judge Bernard A. Friedman, in a 12-page opinion, issued an order compelling the government to approve and adopted childs request for a permanent resident visa. The adoptive parents sued immigration officials in U.S. District Court in Detroit in September, after immigration officials again denied her petition. The judge also held that the decision to deny her a visa "is arbitrary, capricious and contrary to law. It also lacks common sense, or sense of fairness."
