Judith Oakes of J. Oakes Family Law in Roseville, Minnesota, practices exclusively in the area of family law. Judy has extensive, broad-ranging experience in alternative dispute resolution, settlement negotiations and litigation. She believes in working towards a just and equitable settlement if one can be reached. In addition, Judy is forthright about the risks, costs and benefits of litigation. Further, Judy is thoroughly prepared for trial for those cases that cannot be settled. She is a compassionate, strong legal advocate for her clients on basic and complex family law issues such as spousal maintenance, property division and valuation, and custody and parenting time, at trial and at the appellate level.

Ms. Oakes has earned the Minnesota State Bar Association's civil trial specialist certification from 1989 to the present. She is a leader in the family law field and has written materials for continuing legal education presentations to train lawyers on cutting-edge family law issues. Judy has written on such topics as advanced issues in child support for the Minnesota CLE Family Law Financial Deskbook in 2008 and on the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act (UCCJA) for the Minnesota Family Law Journal in 1990.

Judy was selected for inclusion in Minnesota Super Lawyers for the years 2006-2011. Only 5 percent of lawyers in the state were selected. She is AV rated* by Martindale-Hubbell's peer review ratings for her legal ability and ethical standards. Judy received the Certificate of Distinguished Service from Minnesota Women Lawyers in 2007, and the Service to Minnesota Women Lawyers Award in 2001. She has also served as the president of Minnesota Women Lawyers. Ms. Oakes received the Minnesota State Bar Association's President's Award in 1988.

Judith Oakes is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Hennepin County Bar Association, the Ramsey County Bar Association and Minnesota Women Lawyers. Ms. Oakes graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School.
