Kevin P. Hickey joined Bassford Remele in 1989 after graduating cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he served as managing editor of the Law and Inequality Journal. Mr. Hickey’s practice primarily involves representing businesses and individuals in commercial and insurance disputes.
A significant portion of his practice involves representing health plans, fiduciaries and employers in litigation arising under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. He also handles intellectual property/technology claims, and has represented a number of technology companies in litigation and risk management.
Mr. Hickey was the Chairperson of the Technology Committee for the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association and is a member of the Technology Committee of the Defense Research Institute. He also has significant experience in handling professional liability matters, unfair competition claims and employment litigation.
Mr. Hickey has tried numerous jury and bench trials in both state and federal court. He has appeared on many occasions before the Minnesota Supreme Court and Minnesota Court of Appeals, and has handled several landmark cases in Minnesota on issues involving the rights of health plans and insurers.
He is a shareholder and chair of the Bassford Remele Commercial Litigation Practice Group and its Technology Committee, and he has served as the firm’s Chief Financial Officer.
