Steve chairs Fredrikson & Byron’s Advertising, Marketing and Trademark Law Group and is recognized as one of the country’s leading advertising and trademark lawyers.  He has been selected to the Super Lawyers® list every year since 1994, and recognized by Fortune magazine as one of America’s Premier Lawyers.   Steve has been involved in the selection, registration and protection of over 3,000 trademarks in more than 80 countries.  He has authored hundreds of intellectual property law articles, spoken to hundreds of ad industry groups, and is nationally known for his industry leadership on legal, ethical and regulatory issues. Steve’s experience as an ad industry executive, lobbyist and volunteer and Hall of Fame drummer, gives him a unique understanding of his clients.  He shares his creativity, insights and knowledge with advertising, sales promotion and design agencies, marketing companies and authors, songwriters, musicians and artists throughout the country.  He is a Trustee of William Mitchell College of Law and a charter member of its Intellectual Property Institute’s Advisory Board, and serves on the National Advisory Boards of the U of M’s School of  Journalism and Mass Communications and the Advertising Compliance Service.  He has served as a member of the National Advertising Review Board, president of the Minnesota Advertising Federation, and chair of the Better Business Bureau, and the American Advertising Federation’s Ad Standards Committee.
