Profile

Diane Breneman handles a wide variety of business litigation and personal injury lawsuits in federal and state courts across the country. Her practice ranges from class action litigation to contract and product liability lawsuits. She frequently represents physician practices and patients against health care insurers. She has handled numerous cases across the country on behalf of catastrophically injured children and adults and has spent a significant amount of her career representing those who suffer severe burn injuries.  Ms. Breneman holds a degree in business and accounting and served as trial counsel for several large companies before emphasizing on plaintiffs' trial work. She also chairs a national product liability section for the American Association for Justice and has held a number of civic and community positions in Kansas City.

Honors and Awards: Ms. Breneman was inducted into the Melvin Belli Society in 2007.  The Society is a prestigous group of trial attorneys from across the United States.  Only 5 attorneys from the Kansas City Metropolitan area have received this honor., Ms. Breneman graduated from law school as a memeber of the Order of the Coif and Phi Kappa Psi Honorary Fraternities.  While in law school, Ms. Breneman was awarded the Rice Scholarship, served as a law review editor and moot court champion.
Special Licenses/Certifications: Ms. Breneman is licensed to practice law in the states of Kansas and Texas as well as the state of Missouri.
Bar/Professional Activity: For the last five years, Ms. Breneman has chaired one of the American Association of Justice's product liability groups.
Scholarly Lectures and Writings: Ms. Breneman has addressed the American Association of Justice and the American Bar Association on several ocassions.  Ms. Breneman has routinely presented to physician organizations and practice management groups on a local, regional and national level.  Ms. Breneman's article regarding how to start a law practice appeared in Trial Magazine in 2007.
Verdicts and Settlements: Since transitioning from defense work to plaintiff litigation, eleven years ago, Ms. Breneman's efforts have resulted in settlments to her clients which exceed 70 million dollars.
Other Outstanding Achievements: In 2008, Dan Rather reports presented a 45 minute program regarding Ms. Breneman's work with severely burned children.  Good Morning America profiled five of Ms. Breneman's burn injury clients with regards to gas can litigation.  In July of 2008, legislation that Ms. Breneman assisting in drafting in conjunction with Representative Dennis Moore's office passed Congress and was signed into law by President Bush.  The legislation closes a long standing loophole that previously allow gas cans to be manufactured without child resistant closures which resulted in numerous children under the age of five being severely burned or burning to death.  Ms. Breneman has been quoted in the Wallstreet Journal with regards to stories about various pieces of litigation including her pending class action against United Insurance Company on behalf of physicians and product liability litigation against Wal-mart.
