J. Zachary Bickel is a partner in The Robertson Law Group assisting clients in all phases of litigation at trial and on appeal by indentifying, protecting, and preserving legal issues in all types of civil litigation in state and federal courts. Zach’s practice involves researching, reviewing and drafting pleadings for trial in conjunction with trial counsel, assisting in the drafting of jury instructions for trial, attending and arguing at pre-trial conferences and trial as appellate counsel, drafting post-trial motions and presenting appellate writs, briefs, and oral arguments to the higher courts on appeal.
Zach focuses his appellate practice to civil appeals, and primarily works on wrongful death, consumer fraud, personal injury, breach of contract, real estate, business and insurance matters.
Zach is very involved with The Missouri Bar. He has moderated and lectured at Missouri Bar CLEs throughout the state. In 2009 Zach was appointed as the Vice Chairperson of the Civil Practice and Procedure Committee for The Missouri Bar and has since been reappointed to that same position in 2011. Zach continues to be active in The Missouri Bar. He is a section editor of The Missouri Bar Courts Bulletin, and is currently editing The Missouri Bar's Evidentiary Objections manual. Zach was also selected as one of two Kansas City area attorneys inducted into the 2010-11 Missouri Bar Leadership Academy, a highly selective group comprised of 13 young lawyers from across the state that are prepared to assume future leadership roles within The Missouri Bar.
Zach is a 2006 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, where he graduated with honors (Order of the Barrister) and served as a Chairperson on the Executive Board of the Board of Advocates. He also received the University Of Missouri School Of Law’s Roscoe Anderson Award for Excellence in Advocacy, awarded to a law student who excelled in trial advocacy. Zach’s undergraduate studies were completed at St. Louis University, where he majored in history graduating with honors.
Prior to becoming a partner at The Robertson Law Group, Zach was a civil trial practitioner in Columbia, Missouri focusing on both plaintiff and defense work. While in Columbia, he devoted much of his spare time to civic and charitable organizations, including serving as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for The Phoenix Programs, a drug counseling and rehabilitation center that has served the Mid-Missouri region for over 30 years.
Zach is licensed to practice law in Missouri. He is a member of The Missouri Bar, the Missouri Bar Civil Practice and Procedure Committee, a sustaining member of Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA), KCMBA Appellate Committee; 2010 KCMBA Appellate Rules Subcommittee, KCMBA Young Lawyers Section, AWL, Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers, DRI (International Defense Lawyers Organization); and member of the 2010-2011 Missouri Bar Leadership Academy.
As a former NCAA Division I, and High School First Team All American swimmer, Zach enjoys swimming, deep sea SCUBA diving, boating, and relaxing on the beach or at The Lake with his wonderful wife Gina and son Evan.
