James M. Porfido, Attorney at Law, is dedicated to providing aggressive and diligent criminal defense for clients in Morristown and throughout northern New Jersey. Other attorneys may dabble in criminal law, but Mr. Porfido focuses his entire attention, energy and skill to vigorously representing his clients’ rights. His experience and training allow him to tackle the most complex and demanding cases.
He has been actively involved in criminal law for more than 20 years, skillfully handling a wide variety of cases, including those involving DUI/DWI, drug charges, sexual assault, theft, burglary, juvenile delinquency and expungements.
Mr. Porfido earned his J.D. from the University of Bridgeport School of Law in 1988. From 1989-1997, Mr. Porfido served as an assistant Morris County prosecutor. He was also the chief prosecutor of the Vehicular Homicide and Assault by Auto Unit, and the chief of Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit. In addition, he was certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a certified criminal trial attorney in 1995 and 2002.
Mr. Porfido is a member of numerous professional organizations. He is also involved in community service, serving on the board of directors of the Teresa G. Wright Promise Foundation, D.A.R.E. of New Jersey, Hope House of Dover, the New Jersey Crime Victim Law Center and the Morristown Memorial of Health Foundation.
In addition, he has received many different awards and honors, including recognition by the Policeman's Benevolent Association, the Fraternal Order of Police and the New Jersey Crime Victims Law Center.
