Cheryl M. Helfer is a partner of Helfer & Helfer Progress Credit in Bellmore, New York, a law firm serving clients throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island. Her practice focuses on matrimonial law and divorce-related issues, including child custody, support, property division and claims of neglect, abuse or domestic violence. Although she has had substantial experience and success litigating family law issues on behalf of her clients, Ms. Helfer uses alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods such as mediation and collaborative law whenever possible to help clients resolve their disputes outside of court.
Ms. Helfer received her Juris Doctor from St. John's University School of Law in 1980 and has received additional legal training in the areas of mediation and collaborative law since then. Throughout her career, she has been a highly involved member of the legal community, with current affiliations that include the Nassau County Matrimonial Mediation Panel, the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau County Women's Bar Association (past president), the New York State Bar Association, the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals and the International Association of Collaborative Professionals. Lastly, Ms. Helfer is proud to be an elected fellow of the New York Bar Foundation.
