Michael Miller represents high net-worth clients in estate planning and administration and represents executors, trustees, and beneficiaries in both contested and uncontested matters involving the administration of complex high asset estates and trusts. Although a solo practitioner, Mr. Miller has developed strategic alliances with leaders in various fields of the law in order to best serve the needs of his clients. He also represents petitioners, respondents, fiduciaries and interested parties in guardianship proceedings and receivers and interested partes in complex real estate receivership proceedings. Honors and Awards:
- Mr. Miller has received numerous awards in recognition of his leadership in the profession and his commitment to pro bono endeavors. Among his many awards, Mr. Miller received several related to his leadership in the post-9/11 relief efforts. Those awards include the American Bar Association's highest award for pro bono service, the 2002 ABA Pro Bono Publico Award, a 2001 Pro Bono Award from the National Law Journal, and a 2002 Hero of the Profession Award from the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education. Other awards Mr. Miller has received include recognition for his service in 1996 as an Election Supervisor in Bosnia, for his work in 1999 interviewing Kosovo refugees for evidence of war crimes and for establishing award-winning pro bono programs over the years.
Bar/Professional Activity:
- Among his many bar activities, Mr. Miller is a former President of the New York County Lawyers' Association (2002-2004), a former Chair of the New York State Conference of Bar Leaders (2004), a member of the House of Delegates of both the New York State Bar Association (1992-1996, 1997-2000, 2001-2005, 2006-present) and the American Bar Association (2000-2004), and was a New York State Representative to the National Caucus of State Bar Associations (2002-2003).
Pro bono/Community Service:
- Mr. Miller has a deep commitment to public service and pro bono work, which includes diverse activities both locally and in the international arena. Locally, over the years he has developed award-winning pro bono programs to assist children and families in distress. Internationally, Mr. Miller served as an Election Supervisor in war-torn Bosnia shortly after the Dayton Accords in 1996. In 1999, under the auspices of the Central and Eastern Europe Legal Initiative, Mr. Miller interviewed Kosovo refugees for evidence of war crimes, evidence which assisted in the work of the Court of International Justice in the Hague. Among his many awards, Mr. Miller received several related to his leadership in the post-9/11 relief efforts. Mr. Miller personally interviewed, counseled and consoled numerous victims' grieving family members and assisted in the preparation of legal documents for issuance of death certificates and entitlements to which issuance of a death certificate was an essential prerequisite. He also supervised other volunteers, coordinated daily de-briefings with mental health professionals, and developed an Adopt-A-Family Program to assist the families of firefighters, police officers and other uniformed service personnel who perished on September 11.
