Profile

Mr. Pinnisi handles a national practice from a base in Ithaca, New York.  His clients include multinational corporations, venture capitalists and other financiers, established manufacturing and other businesses, emerging high technology companies, and even other New York Superlawyers. His legal experience before his current private practice in upstate New York includes service as an Honor Program Trial Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Manhattan (for Rudy Giuliani and others) and in Washington, D.C., as an associate with Shearman & Sterling in New York and with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in D.C., as General Counsel and Vice President of microtech company Kionix, Inc., and as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Cornell Law School.  In those capacities he has handled cases of national significance, supervised the merger and sale of companies valued into hundreds of millions of dollars, structured and negotiated complex business deals, obtained seven-figure jury verdicts and judgments, and supervised the prosecution, management, enforcement, and transfer of portfolios including over 100 patents.  He works primarily as outside general counsel for a diverse range of businesses, with duties including corporate governance, contract negotiation and drafting, litigation, intellectual property consultation, and general advice regarding diverse matters.  He is a graduate of Cornell University and Cornell Law School, a regular speaker to bar and business groups, and a recipient of awards for upholding high ethical standards in practice.  His current firm, Pinnisi & Anderson, LLP, has an express mission to provide the quality of legal services normally found in major cities with the favorable rates and personal service that are possible from an operation in upstate New York.

Verdicts and Settlements: Most matters are resolved by settlement with confidentiality restrictions that prohibit publication here.  Other examples include verdict obtained against Washington Gas Company on behalf of seller of business for wrongful denial of earn-out payment (obtained maximum available contract damages plus interest plus attorneys fees and litigation costs, totaling over $2 million).  Also obtained favorable verdicts for plaintiffs in medical malpractice actions for failure to diagnose cancer, failure to diagnose adverse drug reactions, improper selection and performance of surgical procedures.
Transactions: Supervised restructuring and/or sale of businesses across New York State with transaction values ranging up to hundreds of millions.  Negotiated and drafted many technology transfer, executive employment, vendor and customer, and other contracts.
