For Thomas W. Henson Jr., concentrating his law practice on nursing home abuse and neglect is both challenging and rewarding. As one of the lead attorneys in a team of four within his firm that focuses on nursing home litigation, Henson states, “We are proud of the fact that our firm has had a major positive impact on elder care.”
Henson is a senior litigator at the current 10-attorney law firm HensonFuerst, P.A., formed as a general practice in 1976 by Thomas W. Henson Sr., and Robert L. Fuerst. The firm commits its efforts and resources to representing clients injured or defrauded by major corporations that carelessly or intentionally act against the public trust. The firm has amassed multimillion-dollar settlements and verdicts for clients. HensonFuerst handles a large number of catastrophic injury cases, as well as complex litigation involving plaintiffs injured by environmental toxins. “We refuse to stand by and let corporate greed and misconduct injure innocent consumers, and vulnerable nursing home patients in particular,” Henson says.
Henson is respected by his peers for his work to improve the quality of elder care in North Carolina and the nation. He served on the board of directors of Friends of Residents in Long Term Care, and as chairman of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice’s nursing home litigation group. He has presented at North Carolina State University on nursing home neglect issues, and frequently speaks before the North Carolina Advocates for Justice on all aspects of nursing home litigation.
Henson is a member of the American Association for Justice and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, from which he received the “Order of Service” in 2007, an award given for generous contributions of service in advancing the organization’s mission of protecting people’s rights.
Henson proudly serves as team captain of the HensonFuerst cycling team, which rides annually in the Tour de Cure, a 150-mile cycling event that raises money for the American Diabetes Association. He also serves as co-chair for the 2009 tour event. HensonFuerst consistently supports and participates in numerous community movements, including Hope Blooms and Relay for Life, yearly charitable activities that support cancer research and prevention, as well as programs for the American Heart Association.
