MORE THAN THE LAW
Bill Powers views his job as an opportunity to counsel clients through difficult times and educate other legal professionals about DWI law. He has spent more than 15 years guiding clients through a sometimes complicated legal system and encouraging them to make important lifestyle changes when necessary.
GRATEFUL FOR THE HONOR
This is the second year in a row Powers has been named to the North Carolina Super Lawyers® list. He is truly grateful to his fellow attorneys for nominating him. Adds Powers, “Out of any other certification or award I’ve won, I’m most proud of the Super Lawyers designation.”
PRACTICE AREAS
Powers is a partner at the Charlotte-based law firm, where lawyers spend a substantial amount of time in court arguing cases. He focuses his practice primarily on DWI and traffic-related matters. Powers is available for consultation and enjoys talking with other legal professionals about the science and technology associated with DWI.
COURTROOM VETERAN
Powers began his career in Mecklenburg County, gaining experience in the courtroom that has served him well today. His long-term goal was to start his own practice. He met that objective nearly 10 years ago when he joined with another experienced litigator, Tom Bush, to open Bush & Powers.
FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT
A natural competitor, Powers thrives in the courtroom. He enjoys the challenge of advocating for his clients. “I like rolling up my sleeves and getting into the mix,” he says. “At the same time, I seek to be courteous throughout the process.”
A LAWYER AND A TEACHER
Powers is generous with his knowledge of DWI law. He has taught a series of continuing legal education courses on topics such as the Intoxilyzer 5000, the AlcoSensor, blood testing, traffic law and legal ethics. He is a board-certified criminal law specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
