Mr. Scheer is a 1979 graduate of Duke University (with honors). For several years after college, he owned and managed a retail water sports store in Durham, North Carolina. Mr. Scheer graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law (cum laude) in 1992. He was a member of the Law Review and concentrated his studies in the area of criminal law. In 1992 and 1993, he was a law clerk in the Federal Courts for the Eastern District of Virginia. For the next 4 years, he worked in the Charlotte District Attorney’s office and prosecuted traffic offenses, drug crimes and violent felonies including rape and murder. Mr. Scheer joined Rawls, Dickinson & Scheer in 1997 and has concentrated his practice in criminal defense. He is a Board Certified Specialist in the areas of State and Federal Criminal Law and has handled several high profile cases. His practice is now largely major felonies and federal criminal defense.
