Profile

As one of the firm's founding partners, E.D. Gaskins Jr. has successfully litigated matters involving such diverse subjects as insurance coverage, business organizational disputes, bankruptcy and ad valorem tax appeals. With the exception of the two years he served his country as a captain in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, Mr. Gaskins has been serving clients in Raleigh since 1966 with his firm, Everett Gaskins Hancock LLP.

A frequent appellate advocate concerning matters he has litigated in the trial court, Mr. Gaskins has represented appellate cases litigated by other attorneys who request him on appeal. His most frequent cases involve resolution of business disputes, but it was construction-related litigation that led him to become one of the first attorneys in North Carolina involved in toxic mold litigation. Though Mr. Gaskins prefers to settle disputes without court involvement, he is prepared to litigate in any of the three Federal district courts in North Carolina, the North Carolina Supreme Court, the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the District of Columbia Appeals Court, the District Court for the District of Columbia, the U.S. Court of Claims or the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Gaskin's commitment to professionalism led to his being awarded the prestigious Joseph Branch Professionalism Award in 2004. He also served on the North Carolina Bar Association Board of Governors and served as president of the Wake County Bar Association in 2009.
