W. Craig Bashein has routinely been selected by his peers to be among the attorneys in Ohio Super Lawyers®. In 2007, the Public Justice Foundation nominated him as a finalist for National Trial Lawyer of the Year. Ohio Lawyers Weekly has previously recognized him as one of “Ohio’s Top 10 Lawyers.” Bashein is board-certified in civil trial advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, and has tried more than 150 jury trials in his career. His practice areas include class action, catastrophic injury and wrongful death litigation, employment litigation, products liability, automobile accidents, employment, insurance law and appellate practice. He also represents a significant number of law enforcement officers throughout northern Ohio. Bashein is a member of the Cleveland and Ohio state bar associations and The American Trial Lawyers Association. He currently serves on the board of the Cleveland Academy of Trial Attorneys and Ohio Association for Justice.

Bashein has argued on numerous occasions before the Ohio Supreme Court and has secured several seminal rulings by the high court, including the right of adult children to bring a consortium action for injury to their parents in Rolf v. Tri-State Motor (2001), and the rights of more than 8,000 injured workers to seek and recover reimbursement of more than $52 million of wrongfully withheld workers compensation benefits in Santos v. Bureau of Workers Compensation (2004).

Last year, as lead counsel in Santos, Bashein secured a judgment against the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation for return of subrogation funds improperly taken by the bureau. In doing so, he ensured the return of more than $52 million dollars to class members. This is believed to be the largest judgment ever paid in northern Ohio. Based upon that recovery, Bashein and his legal team were nominated and recognized as finalists for the 2007 National Trial Lawyer of the Year.
