Profile
The law itself can do nothing for a client; it's the attorney's understanding of the law that makes justice happen. William (Bill) A. Barton, a founding partner of the Barton Law Firm in Newport, Oregon, not only understands the law, he knows how to work within the system to promote positive change.
Bill is a plaintiff’s jury trial lawyer who has tried and won a number of landmark cases over the course of his career. His focus is on cases of serious injury and on collecting damages for individuals who have suffered psychological or physical injuries as a result of civil rights violations, sexual abuse, medical and professional neglect, and other wrongs.
Bill has practiced law for more than 35 years while remaining highly active in the professional community, serving on many boards, writing and teaching. He has lectured on trial advocacy in 35 states and four countries. In addition to professional accomplishments and contributions, Bill has received a number of honors from the legal communities he is a part of, including an AV Preeminent peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell, election as one of Oregon's Top Ten Super Lawyers and a fellowship in the American College of Trial Lawyers.
*AV Preeminent and BV Distinguished are certification marks of Reed Elsevier Properties Inc., used in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies. Martindale-Hubbell is the facilitator of a peer review rating process. Ratings reflect the anonymous opinions of members of the bar and the judiciary. Martindale-Hubbell peer review ratings fall into two categories: legal ability and general ethical standards.
