Profile
Edward (Ed) Jaffee Abes is the managing shareholder of Abes Baumann, a Pittsburgh law firm that has been helping injured or ill clients obtain financial resources in Allegheny County and western Pennsylvania since 1981. A 1969 graduate of Duquesne University School of Law, Ed's first position as an attorney was with the State Workers Insurance Fund. In 1978, he decided that the injured worker was his primary concern and established his own law firm. For more than 30 years now, he has represented only injured workers filing claims, in litigation over denied claims, and in workers' compensation appeals.
Ed is an active member of several legal and civic-minded organizations, including the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the American Civil Liberties Union. He is also a member of the Workers' Compensation Panels of the National Football League Players' Association, the National Hockey League Players' Association and the Professional Hockey Players Association representing injured professional athletes. In 2010, Ed was named the "Pittsburgh Best Lawyers Workers' Compensation Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession.
