Winkler attended the Honor’s Program at Temple University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude in English and Economics.  She received her Juris Doctor degree from Temple University School of Law with an Award for Excellence in Civil Trial Advocacy.  She is admitted to practice in the State and Federal Courts of both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  In 2008, she was inducted as a Fellow of Litigation Counsel of America which is a trial lawyer honor society, open to membership by invitation only. Nancy is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum whose membership is limited to those attorneys who have obtained million dollar settlements or verdicts for their clients. Working hard to protect the rights of innocent victims has been at the heart of Ms. Winkler’s career.  In 2002, Nancy was the recipient of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association’s President’s Award in recognition of her devotion to advancing the goals of the organization and in defending the injured and protecting our civil justice system.  She was selected as a Super Lawyer by Philadelphia Magazine for 2005, 2006, 2007,and 2010.   This distinction is limited to only 5% of the legal community in Pennsylvania. Ms. Winkler believes in giving back to the legal community and is frequently invited to lecture for various groups and organizations including lawyers, doctors, nurses and healthcare workers.   She has written articles and seminar materials on topics including various aspects of civil litigation and automobile law.  She also co-authored a book entitled, "Pennsylvania Automobile Litigation; Guidelines and Forms for the Trial Lawyer"; Third Edition. Nancy also believes that it is important to provide representation to those who cannot otherwise afford it and has taken on pro bono cases throughout the years.  She and her partners hold a strong belief that as lawyers, it is their obligation to the community to take on pro bono cases.  They have made pro bono work part of the culture in the firm.  Nancy has also been recognized by the judiciary in Philadelphia as an attorney whose pro bono work is exemplary. Ms. Winkler is also a member of the Hamilton Circle of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, making a commitment to contribute $10,000.00 over a ten year period to fund pro bono services for needy Philadelphians. Ms. Winkler currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice and has served as the Chair for Fund Development from 2004-2006 and again from 2008-2009.  From 2007 through 2009, Ms. Winkler has served as the Comptroller for the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association. Previously, she served as Treasurer for the organization for two years and has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1998.   Ms. Winkler has also been active in the Philadelphia Bar Association.  She was appointed Co-Chair for the Medical-Legal Committee for 2004 and has investigated many judicial candidates for the Commission for Judicial Selection and Retention.   She previously served on the Board of Directors of the Robin’s Nest Children Services and the Pennsylvania Brain Injury Association.  Ms. Winkler is also a member of local and State bar associations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Verdicts and Settlements:

  • Nancy Winkler settled a New Jersey medical malpractice case for a 43 year old mother of two who suffered due to a delay in diagnosing her breast cancer. Fortunately, she is alive and cancer free at present. The amount of the settlement remains confidential.
  • Attorneys Nancy Winkler, Kenneth Rothweiler and Alex MacDonald recovered $3 million for the family of a 50 year old man. The diligent work of our attorneys proved that the pharmaceutical company was responsible for the death of their client.
  • Nancy Winkler recovered over $1 million for a 52 year old woman who lost control of her vehicle when struck by a tractor trailer. The driver of the tractor trailer denied striking her vehicle.
  • Nancy Winkler, Kenneth Rothweiler  and Alex MacDonald settled a case against major pharmaceutical company. Winkler, Rothweiler, and MacDonald recovered $3.5 million for the family of 39 year old man when they proved that the drug manufacturer was directly responsible for the death of their client.
  • Nancy Winkler and Kenneth Rothweiler represented the family of a 41 year old man with Down’s syndrome who died while being restrained by employees of the facility where he resided. The employees alleged that he was being aggressive with other residents and that he needed to be physically restrained. Despite signs of distress the defendants continued to restrain the man until he died of asphyxiation. Winkler and Rothweiler argued at trial that the facility and its employees were negligent and failed to follow their own policies and procedures and were directly responsible for their client’s death. After over a week at trial the defendants paid $3.6 million in settlement.

Other Outstanding Achievements:

  • Published in Self Magazine. Winkler, who has seen dozens of cases where women suffered because of medical mistakes, provided insight about the most common ones and tips to avoid them.
