Robert C. Gerhard, III is a partner with the Montgomery County firm of Gerhard & Gerhard Law Offices, located in Glenside, Pennsylvania. His practice is devoted exclusively to estate planning and elder law matters, with an emphasis on Medicaid law and asset protection for families facing nursing home situations, including appeals for clients whose Medicaid benfits have been denied or discontinued. Mr. Gerhard is also certified as an elder law specialist by the National Elder Law Foundation, as approved by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the American Bar Association. He is one of only a handful of attorneys in the entire Commonwealth who can claim this distinction. The law treatise he authored, Pennsylvania Medicaid: Long-Term Care, is purchased annually by hundreds of lawyers from across Pennsylvania. Mr. Gerhard served as chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Elder Law Section in 2010, and is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars for Pennsylvania lawyers on elder law subjects, primarily teaching on the topics of eligibility for Medidaid long-term care benefits, Pennsylvania's estate recovery program, and spousal protection from long-term care costs.
Mr. Gerhard holds an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council. He has been selected for inclusion in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers 2005-2011, as seen in both Philadelphia magazine and Pennsylvania Super Lawyers.
*AV Preeminent and BV Distinguished are certification marks of Reed Elsevier Properties Inc., used in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies. Martindale-Hubbell is the facilitator of a peer review rating process. Ratings reflect the anonymous opinions of members of the bar and the judiciary. Martindale-Hubbell peer review ratings fall into two categories: legal ability and general ethical standards.
